OTTAWA – Mike McKinney, Q.C. of Edmonton has been named Chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s (CBA) Canadian Corporate Counsel Association (CCCA) for 2018-2019 — a role he has taken over from Nick Slonosky of Winnipeg as of September 1, 2018. McKinney is Executive Director / General Counsel for the Sawridge Group of Companies and the Sawridge First Nation.

During his time as Chair, McKinney’s goal is to continue to promote the value of in-house counsel while growing the membership. “We need to ensure that we offer professional development, resources, networking and other services of value which meet the needs of a very diverse and dispersed membership,” he explains.

Now almost 5,000 members strong, the CCCA continues to provide engaging educational and networking events, tools and resources such as the Business Leadership Program for In-House Counsel, a Career Management Portal and the ever popular annual National Conference — which will be held April 7-9 in Toronto.

QUICK FACTS:

  • The CCCA represents in-house counsel members from across Canada.
  • CCCA members are lawyers working for public and private companies, non-profits, associations, government and regulatory boards, Crown corporations, municipalities, hospitals, post-secondary institutions and school boards.
