TORONTO, ON – Monique St. Germain has been named the winner of the 2019 Innovation Award from the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association, part of the Canadian Bar Association.
The Innovation Award recognizes a CCCA in-house counsel member (or group) who is doing things differently to create value on behalf of or for the benefit of a legal department or organization.
Ms. St. Germain is the General Counsel for the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (C3P) in Winnipeg. During her time there, she has created new ways for a legal department to work within a charity while staying committed to her purpose of finding legal avenues to protect children and survivors of sexual abuse. Her innovative solutions include educating colleagues outside of the legal department on the unique legal challenges facing the organization and the families they serve, developing an online educational platform for Crown Prosecutors, and normalizing the use of video victim impact statements.
As one of her nominators wrote, Ms. St. Germain “has come up with creative solutions which have allowed the organization to pursue its charitable mission to the fullest while ensuring that the organization is legally protected and compliant.”
The Innovation Award will be presented during the CCCA 2019 “Light the Fire” National Conference, on the afternoon of Monday, April 8, 2019 in Toronto, ON along with various other CCCA awards.
